The Kate Kennedy Club runs this torch-lit procession, taking place on the eve before May, in remembrance of John Honey. Honey was a heroic student who on the 3rd January 1800 risked his life to rescue passengers from a wrecked ship, the Janet, off East Sands. Years later Honey died as a result of complications from his injuries.

The Gaudie remembers Honey’s efforts with the help of thousands of students partaking each year on East Sands pier.

Gaudie 2025 is particularly historic, as it marks the re-opening of the pier, following its closure in November 2023 after suffering storm damages.
